Employment and Labor Law Trends and Updates in 2023

Keeping up-to-date with federal and state law updates each year (in addition to daily management of a workforce) can seem like a never-ending challenge. This presentation from Bismarck’s Employment and Labor Law team provides an overview of legal updates for 2023 and what employers may expect after the legislation session. Participants should walk away with a good knowledge base on key legal compliance issues they should watch for in 2023 (and into 2024) and specific guidance on employment and labor law “red flags” for 2023.  

KrisAnn Norby-Jahner:  KrisAnn practices in the areas of employment law and education law. She is a frequent lecturer on a variety of employment and education law-related topics for business owners, HR professionals, public and private boards, school districts, and healthcare entities. She works in the areas of HR counseling, contract drafting and review, policy drafting and review, administrative hearings, and general civil litigation. In addition to being a lawyer, KrisAnn holds graduate degrees in English and writing and has taught courses as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, Hamline University, NDSU, BSC, the University of Mary, and Kent State University in Ohio. KrisAnn is listed on the “Super Lawyers” and “Best Lawyers” lists by Thomson Reuters and has been listed as a Top Female Attorney by the Minneapolis St. Paul Magazine.

Seth Thompson: Seth practices in the areas of employment and labor law, construction law, and general civil litigation. As a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School, he was Editor-in-Chief of the ABA Journal of Labor & Employment Law and received the ABA-BNA Award for Excellence in the Study of Labor and Employment Law. Seth has also negotiated numerous collective bargaining agreements and has significant expertise in negotiating on behalf of employers with unions and handling arbitrations and mediations. Seth is also listed on the “Super Lawyers” list by Thomson Reuters and is a frequent lecturer on labor law and related federal and state regulatory compliance.
