    “Help! I’ve Never Worked with A Unionized Workforce”

    If you have worked in human resources for two years or ten but have not had the opportunity to work in an organization where some employees are unionized and others are not, this session is for you.

    • Understand the differences between working with unionized workforces and non-unionized workforces.
    • A few terms and definitions to learn.
    • Gain insights on how a labor agreement is developed and the frequency in which revisions are made.  Think of it as another policy guide you get to help oversee and update!
    • Master negotiations through strategy and lots of pre-planning.
    • SHRM Behavioral Competencies you will need: Leadership & Navigation, Communication, Relationship Management, Business Acumen, Consultation, and Analytical Aptitude

    Presenter

    Cheryl Froelich oversees the human resource activities at BNI Energy in Bismarck, ND. BNI employs about 185 employees in the lignite coal mining industry with its mine located in Center, ND. BNI is a subsidiary of ALLETE, Inc. a Minnesota based publicly traded corporation. She began her HR career over 22 years ago. Her industry experience spans energy, health care, and State government. Cheryl is a graduate of Bismarck State College and the University of Mary with degrees in business and human resource management.  Cheryl participates in a number of community and State advisory councils and boards including serving as a Board member of BSC’s Southwest TrainND, the public representative for the ND Board of Nursing, the ND Safety Council, and the BSC Polytechnic Energy Business Industry and Leadership Team. She and her husband Larry reside in Mandan, and are the proud parents of their grown children Alex, his wife Abby, grand-daughter Gracie, grandson August, daughter Alison, and her husband Colyn.
