This meeting will be held on Thursday, July 11 from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber. Rep. Nathe will touch on some of the following talking points:
- Overview of the Educational Committee and their role
- Rep. Nathe's role as the Educational Committee Chair and Sen. Poolman's role in the appropriations committee.
- Makeup of the Educational Committee and their educational background
- The Educational committee reviews, debates, amendments
- Determine the financial impact on the overall budget?
- Work with appropriations committee?
- Work with other committees and legislators?
- Work with the Governor and his budget?
- Distinguish between financial impact vs. the educational needs of our children?
- How do they see The Chamber's BEPC working with the Legislative Educational Committee in the future?
- Why is there such an ongoing conflict/turmoil with Higher Education?
- What can be done to have better transparency and relationship between the HE System, HE Board and Legislation?
Our greatest resources are our children, this legislative session, we have heard of some controversial issues concerning and impacting our valuable resources, the children. Rep. Nathe and Sen. Poolman will talk about some of those controversial bills and their opinion of the "do not pass" legislation. (Milk cartons, etc…)
Does Rep. Nathe or Sen. Poolman think there are gaps in our educational system? If so, what is being done to address those gaps?
ND is seeing an influx in population due to the oil boom and employment opportunities; therefore, creating an increase need in schools, teachers, teacher aids, and all resources. What did this past legislation do to prepare or solve this issue without over allocating money or not allocating enough money?
Teachers, teacher aids, school personnel have a valuable impact on our children and provide a lot of direct services; however, their pay is brought up every session as being extremely low compared to other states. Rep. Nathe and Sen. Poolman will provide us some insight/education into the determining salaries for our school personnel while providing quality education.
This presentation is being sponsored by the Business Education Partnership Committee (BEPC). The event cost is $15 and includes lunch. If you are interested in what happened this year at the Legislature and want to hear the "nuts and bolts" of the future plans in our state, please attend this great event!
