Every HR Professional has been put into the situation where they are charged with fixing a poor performing leader or department in the organization. Perhaps it is a leader that is totally unaware of how negatively they are perceived by others or a department that is constantly a source of chaos and confusion for both you and the other departments who need them to get their work done. Either way, in either situation, you are being put in a tough situation. Any leader or department that is reluctant to share skills, knowledge and information with others and refuses to think any problems are coming from them should be a big concern for you. Though sending in a coach may be the right solution, perhaps a better first step should be doing a deeper dive into why a leader or department like this is able to survive in your organization.

Often, it is not the department's fault but rather the presence and acceptance of silos and silo thinking that are the problem. Silos and silo thinking create barriers to effective communication and collaboration throughout your organization causing a ripple of negativity.
